Project Self Confidence: Five Thoughts to Reframe Your Fear and Take Back Your Life

build confidence confidence fear overcome fear take back your life Mar 22, 2021

Welcome back to our monthly installment on building self-confidence. In this edition, we delve into the topic of reframing fears that may be undermining our self-confidence. Fear is a universal experience, but it doesn't have to dominate our lives. Here are five crucial thoughts to help you understand and reframe fear.

  1. Your Fear Exists Only in the Mind

- Fear is a construct of the mind, unique to humans due to our capacity for constant thought.

- Humans are the only animals living in constant fear and anxiety because of the mind.

- FEAR stands for False Evidence Appearing Real; most fears are irrational.

To-Do: Separate the thought of fear from the feeling. Challenge fearful thoughts, throw alternative thoughts at them, and act as if you're not afraid to change the thought pattern.

  1. Your Fears Will Limit You

- Unconfronted fears become limits in our lives.

- Fears can restrict freedom and growth; facing them is essential for personal development.

- Agency allows choices, but freedom is based on the things you're free to do, and fear may limit both.

To-Do: Make a list of fears that limit you, and gradually push those limits. Confronting fears expands boundaries and fosters growth.

  1. Fears That Are Confronted Are Converted

- Confronted fears transform into other emotions such as excitement or confidence.

- The mind has the power to change fear by confronting it, blowing up preconceived ideas.

- Fastest way around a fear is through it; facing fears challenges existing beliefs.

To-Do: Recall a time when you conquered a fear or witness someone else doing it. Challenge yourself to confront and conquer one fear by the end of the year.

  1. Energize Your Life by Aligning Your Fears to Your Highest Purpose

- Aligning fears with desires can make life more meaningful.

- Challenges and conquering fears contribute to personal growth and a state of flow.

- Subvert fear to something you love and care about; it fosters constant growth.

To-Do: Push boundaries in things you love. Share your fears with loved ones and demonstrate the power of conquering fear.

  1. You Need Not Fear Doing Something That Is Right

- Minds struggle to distinguish rational from irrational fear, often creating fear in any endeavor.

- Many fears are not life-threatening but growth, progress, and change-threatening.

- Doing the right thing should not instigate fear; it leads to growth and positive change.

To-Do: Whenever fear arises, question if what you fear is the right thing to do. If it's right, trust that it will work out in the end.

By understanding these thoughts, you can reframe fear as a challenge and an opportunity for growth rather than a hindrance to your self-confidence. Conquer your fears, and you'll find yourself on the path to greater confidence and personal development.
